The Relationship Between Continuous Feedback Frequency and Daily Employee Productivity with Identification of Fatigue Free Optimal Frequency Point
Keywords:
feedback frequency, daily productivity, cognitive fatigue, performance management, work motivationAbstract
This theoretical study examines the relationship between continuous feedback frequency and daily employee productivity while identifying optimal frequency thresholds that avoid cognitive fatigue. Analysis of existing literature reveals an inverted quadratic relationship where productivity increases from low to moderate frequencies, peaks at an optimal point varying by task complexity, job tenure, gender, and generational cohort, then declines when frequency exceeds individual processing capacity. Weekly feedback proves optimal for complex tasks and senior employees, daily feedback for varied task sequences, and task level feedback only for simple repetitive work within limited duration. Fatigue manifests through prolonged response times to feedback and reduced strategic variation before productivity declines. Personalized feedback frequency policies with developmental framing rather than social comparison substantially improve tolerance thresholds. Organizations should abandon uniform frequency policies and implement flexible systems with regular productivity and fatigue monitoring to identify each employee’s optimal frequency point. Longitudinal field experiments across industries and cultures remain necessary to validate the proposed model.
