Abstract

This conceptual study examines how empathetic leadership reduces psychological exhaustion from massive artificial intelligence use among digital native employees. Digital native workers, raised with ubiquitous technology, experience unique stressors when interacting with imperfect AI systems daily. Leadership styles prioritizing authentic communication, emotional validation, and autonomy demonstrate capacity to interrupt stress cycles that lead to chronic fatigue. Key mechanisms include transparent acknowledgment of AI limitations, redistribution of performance metrics away from pure speed, facilitation of peer support networks, and physical workspace adjustments that reduce cognitive load. Empathetic leaders also deconstruct the tendency among digital natives to internalize technological failures as personal incompetence. Sustainability of this leadership approach requires organizational protection against compassion fatigue for managers themselves. Practical implications suggest integrating empathy training into leadership development programs with specific focus on human AI collaboration contexts. Future longitudinal studies should measure causal relationships between discrete empathetic behaviors and fatigue reduction across different industries. The conceptual framework offered here positions humanistic leadership as essential infrastructure for responsible AI adoption in modern workplaces.
