Abstract

The continuous growth of industrial activities has created challenges in managing the waste generated, both in terms of quantity and its environmental impact. The linear economic system commonly applied today relies on production processes based on resource extraction, utilization, and disposal, which leads to the depletion of natural resources and the accumulation of unmanaged waste. The concept of a circular economy offers an alternative approach that emphasizes reduction, reuse, and recycling of materials, thereby transforming waste into new resources that can be reintegrated into production processes. This study aims to examine the application of circular economy principles in industrial waste management and to analyze strategies for converting waste into new resources to support operational sustainability. The method employed is a literature review that collects and critically evaluates relevant scholarly sources. The findings indicate that the adoption of circular economy principles enables industries to reduce the amount of waste disposed of, conserve natural resources, and create added value from materials previously considered waste. The main conclusion of this study is that successful implementation of the circular economy requires changes in production processes, management systems, and collaboration among stakeholders involved. This study contributes to the advancement of knowledge in environmental management and operations management and provides practical guidance for industry practitioners in applying circular economy principles to achieve business sustainability.
